Multimedia Sand Filters
PROBLEM: Where it is necessary to treat all incoming water (point of entry - POE) in large volume for the removal of grit, sediment, turbidity and organic matter but also where there is a problem with oxidized iron (‘rust’) and other precipitated contaminants such as manganese or scale particles.
SOLUTION: Multi-media sand filters normally consist of three media layers (ie. Support base gravel, micro screened sand and anthracite) and are a very economical means of primary filtration to remove the bulk of suspended solids. (They are particularly efficient on surface waters). Multi-media filters are periodically backwashed (either automatically or manually) by simply reversing the flow and this flushes to waste the accumulated sediment and also re-grades the filter media layers.

OPERATION & MAINTENANCE Is extremely simple. After initial set-up, the system is virtually self sustaining. With the Automatic Head, back-flushing and clearing of trapped contaminants occur automatically, with manual head this is done by hand with lever. Replace media approximately every three years.

Water Softeners
PROBLEM: Excessive hardness in water due to high levels of calcium carbonate will cause scale buildup on pipes and particularly water heating elements. There will also be a difficulty getting soap and detergents to lather.
SOLUTION: All these problems can be eliminated efficiently by installing an Automatic Water Softener. They utilise the ion exchange process where the calcium is replaced with the more soluble sodium. This is all done automatically using a timer control which allows the water softener resin bed to backwash and regenerate with a brine solution as required.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS: 256 Bypass Valve: This fits directly onto the softener inlet/outlet and allows for bypass when soft water is not required such as watering the garden. 460 Commander: This is the microprocessor control which actually measures water usage so regeneration is only done when necessary. Turbulator: This is fitted onto the resin tank riser pipe and allows turnover of the resin bed during backwash. This is highly effective for removing iron buildup from the resin bed.

Neutralising Filters
PROBLEM: Low pH makes water very acidic and aggressive towards metal plumbing and fittings. This often results in high levels of metals such as copper, iron and zinc dissolving into the water. This can cause a bitter metallic taste and usually leaves green/blue staining on baths and basins. Failure of fittings is also very common because of this corrosion with copper hot water cylinders being most at risk.
SOLUTION: All of these problems can be easily corrected by using a pH neutralising filter which allows acidic water to flow through a bed of specially prepared granulated limestone which is commonly known as Akdolit. This elevates the pH in a natural and safe way without the addition of any chemicals.

High Flow Carbon Filters
PROBLEM: Where it is necessary to treat all incoming water (point of entry – POE) in large volumes for the removal or reduction of a variety of contaminants from water including chlorine, tastes, odours, pesticides, volatile and organic carbons, dissolved colour and chloramines.
SOLUTION: High Flow Carbon *Filters present the best cost effective solution to handle the much higher flow rates and provide a longer life throughput. Most carbon filters are used as point of use (POU) devices where the proportion of water used is small in comparison to the rest of the establishment, thus the filter can be relatively small (POU filters have a typical flow of around 2-4 litres per minute and a throughput life of between 10,000 & 20,000 litres).
USES:
- Chlorine removal for people with sensitive skin
- Restaurants
- Industry and Factory
- Tropical and Indigenous Fish Outlets/ Breeders
- Poultry FarmsWater Treatment Solutions
- Hydroponics
- Breweries
- Colour reduction in supply water
* Highly porous adsorbent carbon

Automatic Iron Reduction System
A mined ore, Pyrolox® effectively reduces iron, sulphur and manganese from problem water.
A naturally mined ore, Pyrolox is a mineral form of manganese dioxide which has been used in water treatment for more than 75 years. Pyrolox is a granular filtration media for hydrogen sulphide, iron and manganese reduction. Pyrolox functions as a catalyst, but itself remains relatively unchanged.
Pyrolox works on a principle whereby the hydrogen sulphide, iron and manganese are oxidized and trapped on the media while simple back washing cleans the bed. No chemical regeneration is required, nothing is imported into the drinking water and Pyrolox has a high capacity for low contaminant concentrations.
Pyrolox is normally positioned after aeration or other means of oxidation such as chlorine or ozone (Chlorine or other oxidants accelerate the catalytic reaction). This is more suitable for Pyrolox filters as they are at their most efficient when dealing with oxidized contaminants.
Because of its heavy weight, it is important that Pyrolox filters are backwashed properly to insure adequate bed expansion and continued service life.
Pyrolux is a naturally occurring mineral that consists of very heavy, steel-grey pyrolusite (MnO2) granules. It does not require regeneration but does require periodic, vigorous back-flushing to remove trapped material.

The Performa 263/440 head valve provides fully automated control over the AP1252. Fitted with a six day timer, the unit undergoes its back-wash automatically and at the most convenient time.
Running costs are negligible. Electricity costs will be under $10 per annum. The pyrolusite ore has a very low attrition rate and may not require a “top-up” for years.
